MANTEC sent an $11,000 check to the financially-strapped City of York for 100 percent of what it would have had to pay in taxes if it was not a nonprofit organization.

The nonprofit, which has its headquarters in York, helps “to meet the needs of small and mid-sized manufacturing enterprises in South Central Pennsylvania,” its website says.

The organization sent a letter along with the check to the city. Councilman Henry Nixon read the letter during the city council meeting Tuesday night.

“We at MATEC continue to believe it is important to support the city as you and your administration work to provide essential services to all citizens of York,” the letter states. “I am certain you will put our hard-earned dollars to good use.”

It was signed by John W. Lloyd, president and CEO of MANTEC.

“We certainly appreciate that kind of commitment on the part of MANTEC” as well as others that paid the full or partial amounts of what their taxes would have been, Nixon said.

In a tweet, @playinyork tweeted: “how very wonderful, hope others follow.”
